Here’s how we helped a local pub with their website nightmare!

The Barley Mow in Walderton is under new ownership. It is old pub, steeped in history, with a dining room and a traditional skittle alley, set in the beautiful South Downs National Park. The pub itself was in need of a significant amount of TLC and Lorraine and Thomas (the new owners) have been working hard every day to transform the Barley Mow into a beautiful, relaxed environment that retains all of the character and history of this much-loved establishment.

The website they inherited was not one that was working well for them. In fact, the home page took over 23 seconds to load! It was built in WordPress using a template bought from a 3rd party and, like nearly all other bought templates, was full of coding errors , as well as being completely inaccessible. Visitors to the website even wondered if they were still in business, as for 22 seconds, all they saw was this:

This is the problem with using templates bought online, they just don’t work properly!

Lorraine and Thomas needed to have a new website that could be built very quickly, would look clean, stylish and would work well on mobiles and tablets. They also wanted to be able to update it themselves, easily.

Enter, stage right, Run Your Own Website!

We were able to put the website together speedily and we launched it last Friday. The home page now loads in under 2 seconds! We also think it looks really nice! Please see for yourself by following this link.

Lorraine and Thomas will be updating the content regularly, with a brand new menu being launch once their new kitchen is completely refurbished, so please keep an eye on the website for this and other exciting changes they are rolling out.

If you’re reading this and thinking that your own local pub doesn’t have a very good website, why not tell them about Run Your Own Website? They will benefit from having a website that looks great on mobiles and tablets and well as being within their own control. This, in turn, will bring more people to the pub which will help their business! Pubs in the UK are currently closing at the rate of 27 per week and it is vital that every pub is able to maximise their marketing through an affordable, flexible website!
